Project space GELIJK IS ONGELIJK is located on the former island of Marken and borrows its name from a carpenter’s saying, which Robbie Schweiger (founder and curator) encountered while renovating his wooden house on Marken. By this is meant that everything you try to keep the same will eventually change. Either by the use of the object or by deformations of the material. This statement that assumes change as the only constant acts as a conceptual framework for the space at the level of materiality but also at the level of the meaning and circulation of ideas and images. In addition, the program establishes a relationship with (the history of) Marken.
