After our summer break, we reopen with the exhibition wait until you hear from me, and we warmly invite you to join us for the opening on 19 September, from 16:00 to 20:00, at our new location at Kruisbaakweg 5B on Marken.

Together with artists Marinus Boezem, Inge Meijer and Noor Nuyten in collaboration with Sjoerd van Leeuwen and Harald den Breejen, we explore the relationships between climate change, water management, heritage and collective memory. At a moment when the dikes of Marken are undergoing major reinforcement, the exhibition asks: how natural is a landscape?

Over the centuries, Marken has been continuously reshaped by water and natural processes, but equally by historical events, human interventions and political choises. These histories remain present in the landscape, even if their traces are not always immediately visible.

The artworks draw attention to these different layers and offer ways of looking at and reading the landscape differently. Through artworks in public space, performances, a walking route and local knowledge, wait until you hear from me invites visitors to reconsider the landscape of Marken: not as a picturesque backdrop, but as a landscape in which histories, political decisions and possible futures intersect.

About the artists

Marinus Boezem (1934) is considered a pioneer of conceptual art in the Netherlands. Since the 1960s, his work has explored how space, time, nature and perception can become integral parts of an artwork. For wait until you hear from me, he creates a monumental text installation in a meadow at the entrance to Marken.

Inge Meijer (1986) investigates how systems of preservation, classification and presentation shape the ways in which we perceive history, heritage and nature. In her installation Maple Tree, a mature maple tree moves through the Dutch landscape, raising questions about migration, adaptation and the ways in which landscapes are shaped and constructed.

Noor Nuyten (1986) investigates how abstract systems relating to time, climate, measurement and technology, among other things, structure our everyday lives. She regularly collaborates with other makers; for wait until you hear from me, she works as NN+ with Sjoerd van Leeuwen and Harald den Breejen, with whom she developed a variation on the Dutch flag.
