KATERYNA LYSOVENKO 

The total installation Room by Kateryna Lysovenko (Odesa, 1989) questions the idea of home as physical as well as psychological space. The room is no longer a self evident place of safety, but becomes a fragile constellation: fluid, temporary, and subject to power structures and war.

For her, the water around Marken evokes memories of her childhood on the Black Sea. In Room, she explores how water can both connect and divide. Here, the sea acts as a transversal space: a carrier of (hi)stories, migration and cultural exchange, but also of imperialism and geopolitical entanglement.
